Project ECHO was launched in at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine by Sanjeev Arora, MD, a liver disease doctor based in Albuquerque who wanted to improve care management and coordination for patients with hepatitis C. At that time it was estimated that only 5 percent of hep C patients in the state were receiving proper treatment. Project ECHO is a key enabler of the overall Hospice UK five-year strategy to open up hospice care. Through the use of Project ECHO methodology there is real potential for hospice teams across the UK to increase their impact by engaging with more communities who often miss out on accessing palliative care input when they need it most.

At ECHO, we’ve been doing two things. We have been collaborating with our comrades in the grassroots community here in Athens to provide mutual aid to vulnerable people. This has included deliveries from the Khora Community Kitchen - translating the orders from our diverse community and using Gary to get the food to the people that need it. Echo is a young-adult novel about the power of music to unite individuals across time, and even save lives: the wide-reaching novel follows an enchanted harmonica to in Germany, in Pennsylvania, and in California, before uniting the characters we meet along the way at Carnegie Hall in Covering the rise of Nazism in Germany.

Project ECHO is designed to encourage students to think critically, solve challenging problems, and develop skills such as oral communication, public speaking, research skills, media literacy, teamwork, planning, self-sufficiency, and goal setting—i.e., skills that will help prepare them for college, modern careers, and adult life.
